4Very good product, if you can get it workingAug 27, 2010
I ordered the Alfa AWUS036H to practice network penetration on my home network. The Alfa AWUS036H is a wireless adapter that is highly recommended for network security testing, and in terms of that it is very effective and I am quite satisfied with it.

The hardest part about the Alfa AWUS036H is the installation. Yes, it does come with an installation disc, but it is a mini-disc, not one that can be put in my MacBook Pro's slot-loading CD drive. I tried to download the driver provided on the Alfa website, but it did not load properly on OS 10.6, because the latest version is for OS 10.5. After much research and trouble I figured out and fixed the problem, but it was a huge hassle.

However, installation problems aside, this is a very nice USB wireless connector. It is powerful and much more far-reaching than the default Broadcom connector in the MacBook Pro. I would recommend it to anyone who has a bit of computer knowledge (and UNIX command line confidence) who is looking to extend their computer's wireless reach.

If anyone is interested, I did in fact write a guide for installation on Mac OS X 10.6 via a video on YouTube. It can be found by searching "How to Install Alfa AWUS036H on Mac" on YouTube. It will be the first video that comes up.

2Product iffy, DB Roth Service worseAug 11, 2010
This review is really about the crappy service I got from DB Roth, which says on their storefront page that you get the service you deserve. I got this product to use with an outdoor antenna, and so paid over $100 for all of it, including the $27 cord to hook them together. I got some service out of it with my Mac OSX 10.4, but when I upgraded to a new Mac the driver would no longer work with the 10.6 system. I asked DB Roth for a link to an upgraded driver, and got a link that was non-functional. The link for the 10.6 driver just yielded the old 10.4 driver. I asked them if they could point me to another link, or failing that, to notify the manufacturer that the link was non-functional. They gave me the runaround, saying I should use the "video" on the driver page to install it. I said I'd seen the video, but the link was wrong. They asked me for my Amazon Order number, and when I sent that they said that since it came through Amazon (which they knew), I'd have to ask Amazon for help. Soooo, don't expect any kind of meaningful help from DB Roth. If they can't solve it with one email, you're on your own! That's not really the kind of service I've come to expect from Amazon or it's associated merchants. The product may arrive quickly, but sometimes, it's the service that goes with it (or doesn't) that counts!

3NiceAug 09, 2010
My daughter lives about 150' away and was only getting one "bar" from our wireless router. This device boosted her received signal up to 4 out of 5 bars. She can now watch streaming video and upload largish documents with no slowdowns. Easy to install and use.
Update: I liked my daughters so much that I bought one for myself. Unfortunately this one was awful! There was no installation CD and the package wasn't sealed. The package said it was a model NH but the sticker on the bottom of the device indicated it was a model H. Trying to download drivers from the site is like pulling teeth. There is a third party downloader that makes you wait up to 90 seconds for the download link and offers to reduce the wait for $$.

2LAN Wireless AdapterJul 20, 2010
The product worked fine for two weeks and then failed. Could not re-install it. The company was very responsive and allowed me to return at their cost to ship me another one. I could not get that one to work at all. They (Dbroth) gladly are in the process of refunding my money.

I should say that when the device worked it performed beautifully.
