4Works GreatNov 16, 2009
I hooked this up to my new antenna and the picture is awesome. The only weird thing is sometimes with far away channels we get them one day, and the next day we don't. But with the local channels the picture is always very clear.

5AP-8700 + 40" antenna = reception over 60 hilly miles in MONov 01, 2009
I'm using a little 40" U-75R antenna from radioshack with a CM 7000 converter box and was getting all uhf channels at 100 per cent. Our one vhf channel, KOLR10, was dropping in and out but after adding this preamp we are now getting signal between 50 to 90 per cent depending on the time of the day or the weather. Our farm is located in the Missouri ozark hills between the towns of Salem and Licking which is over 60 miles from the broadcast towers. I am using the Winegard AP-8700 pre amplifier which I purchased from Amazon along with an FM trap provided by KOLR10 for free. The antenna sits about 12 inches above the gutters on the roof and points into the woods behind our house. I did the research and DH mounted my antenna and ran my cables. The winegard preamp has an FM trap but we don't know how to tune it and I think you have to have special tools to do so but you can get one already tuned for specific channels from your local broadcast company if you ask. Also, check out the neat little $35 U-75R antenna. I have no idea if our great reception is a combination of a great antenna, great preamp, and a great converter/receiver box or if we are just in a magical spot. So if anyone is reading this review that lives in our area, I hope you have as good of luck with the AP-8700 as we are having.

Not sure if this product gave me any advantage since installed both at the same time.

4Winegard AP-8700 U/V Pre-AmplifierOct 13, 2009
Since the area TV stations went digital I could only get 1 or 2 stations on a regular basis using a roof mounted antennae which is about 60 miles from the stations and obstructed by several tall trees.
After installing this pre-amp we receive all major network stations as well as several minor ones. Good performance for the money.
We do occasionally lose signal to some stations depending on weather conditions but still enjoy most programming on a consistent basis
without paying for cable.

5Good ampSep 26, 2009
Before amp: 32% signal strentgh
After install this amp: 83% signal strength.

Great amp. Worth the money
