Does the JobMar 11, 2010 I was so happy when one of my coworkers suggested I buy a wireless extender. I moved into a basement apartment, and was highly disappointed and frustrated that my cell phone reception was so bad. Since I didn't have a "home phone" at the time, having a conversation on my cell while at home was nearly impossible. And then I bought my wireless extender. What an improvement! I went from having constant dropped calls to having bad reception only every now and then. The extender offers three types of installations, ranging from best, to better, to good. I was only able to install the more basic option (that provided good reception) because the best and better installation options required that I screw the antennae either on the outside or inside of the house. Since I don't own the place that I'm staying, I really didn't have that option.
One thing that I noticed was that the cell phone reception was very bad when my area had a lot of snow (during the East Coast blizzard this winter). Even once the snow stopped, it seemed that the high accumulation of snow wrecked havoc on the cell phone reception. My cell phone reception only got better once the snow started to melt in the area (which was like after 2 weeks). At that time, I ended up having to buy a magicJack - No More Phone Bills - Free Local & Long Distance Calls! (which is awesome!) as a "home phone."
I'm happy with my extender (minus the poor reception during snowy weather) and recommend it. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is because of the poor reception during snowy weather.
Had to place antennae outside to make it workFeb 20, 2010 Purchased this to gain signal for T-Mobile in the lower levels of our home. Even if I placed it upstairs where the phone gets a couple of bars, it would not work. I then ran it to the outside and on top of the house, and it now works great. We now get 4-5 bars on our phone. Also, zBoost only includes a 30-ft RG6 cable, so keep that in mind if you have to install this in a similar fashion. Now if only I can get T-Mobile to pick up that tab...
It's FussyFeb 05, 2010 Installing the ZBoost increased the number of bars from "0" inside the main room in our house to 3 or 4. However, I encountered problems connecting with the service which I eventually learned came from standing too close to the base unit with the phone (when I noticed a red light flashing). I also encountered "clipped" words and occasional "network busy" issues that I did not get in good service areas away from the house with the same phone. I decided the system was disappointing, and dismantled the installation. It may work better in another location or with a different service provider.

Better than I expectedJan 24, 2010 Before installing this device, I went on the roof of my single story home to check the quality of cell signal. What I found was 3 - 4 bars if the phone was placed about 5 feet above the roof line. Our phones were useless inside the house, we only got signal if the phone was at a window and even that was sporatic. I installed the booster recieve antenna on a 10 foot mast, this put the antenna 6 foot above the roof. Ran the cable inside and mounted the unit on the wall about 5 ft off the floor. When we powered it on I was very surprised to find we had 3 - 4 bars. We went to all rooms of the house and found our Sprint cell phones now work in EVERY room of our 2,000 sq ft house, they may not have lots of bars, but we can use them and not drop calls. What a great investment!

Wireless Extender zBoost YX500 for Cell PhonesNov 13, 2009 My problem is that I don't have good cell phone signal in my new home. We are thinking it is the foil lining of the insulation in our attic. Verizon says that there is a tower within a two mile radius of our home so it can't be the tower's signal. We bought this product to enable us to have more signal inside our home. I am happy to say that it does give us more signal. However, I was hoping for better signal; but I guess half the signal is better than none. I do recommend this product, but just be aware that it may not give you 100% signal. I would also recommend installing the antenna outside on your roof; the higher the better.
